Award-Winning Wines

Initially Quinta João Clara had grape varieties such as Negramole and Crato Branco being the oldest vines, it was thought in the need to create wines with a modern profile, therefor in the first phase Trincadeira, Aragonês,Syrah and Alicante Bouschet were planted.

In 2008 the grafting of new plants as Touriga Nacional took place.

All This work did not stop here.

Recently in 2010 the plantation of a new plot occurs, this time of white grape varieties, Arinto,Verdelho, Alvarinho and Moscatel are choosen. From this vineyard our first white wine is produced in 2013.

The grape variety Crato Branco, one of the traditional algarvian varieties, was the only one planted and existing on our farm.

These grapes were used to produce our new brand ÁsClaras, together with some of the Moscatel of the new plot.

Throughout the year the vineyards are carefully looked after by the winegrower, phytochemical technician and our oenologist to ensure the quality of the grapes combined to the quality of the wine we produce.

All wine growing operations in the vineyards are preformed and supervised by profissionals, to ensure the plants are in good health conditions and the quality of the fruit.

In all vine parcels sensory and analytical analyses take place, in order to harvest the grapes at the correct time, to prepare vinification into various vats.

The harvest is hand-picked into boxes of 15-20 kg, always in the presence of the enology and viticulture team, in order to ensure these are in good conditions when accepted in the winery.

The vinification is carried out under the supervision and responsibility of the oenologists, during August until November, period of the conclusion of the wines.

The wine is made in stainless steel vats, under temperature control of 28ºC for red wines and 14ºC for white and rosé wines.

Wines subject to ageing in French Oak barrels are bottled later, on the other hand white and rosé wines are bottled earlier.

It’s through the efford , hard and carefull teamwork, that the João Clara and Àsclaras Wines reach your table! From the vineyard to the bottle.
